Climate characteristics of wheat growing region in Croatia

Climate is the main factor affecting cultivar adaptation in a certain environment. Most of wheat growing areas in Croatia have moderately warm, semi continental climate characterized by a mean monthly temperature ranging between -1.9 °C in the coldest months, and 21.8 °C in the warmest months with the annual precipitation between 550 and 900 mm.

Croatian winter wheat cultivars can survive winter temperatures of -20 °C or even lower if they are under snow cover. Temperature extremes recorded in the 20th century were: -35.5 °C in 1919 and 42.4 °C in 1950.
